First thing you&#8217;ll want to do is open up Mac Mail and select <strong>File<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Add Account<\/strong>.&nbsp;If this is the first time Mac Mail has been used, the setup assistant will appear.<\/p>\n<p> \t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-685\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gotowebsmith.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/SettingUpEmailMacMail4.png\" width=\"255\" height=\"381\" \/><\/p>\n<p> \t2. This is the name that will appear in the <strong>From<\/strong> field of messages you send.<\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"> \tEmail Address &#8211; Enter in your entire email address (e.g. myname@mydomain.com).<\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"> \tPassword &#8211; Enter in the password associated for your email account.<\/p>\n<p> \t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-686\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gotowebsmith.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/SettingUpEmailMacMail.png\" width=\"574\" height=\"435\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gotowebsmith.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/SettingUpEmailMacMail.png 574w, https:\/\/gotowebsmith.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/SettingUpEmailMacMail-528x400.png 528w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 574px) 100vw, 574px\" \/><\/p>\n<p> \t3. Click the <strong>Continue<\/strong> button and&nbsp;Enter the following information:<\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"> \tAccount Type &#8211; Select <strong>IMAP<\/strong> from the drop-down menu.<\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"> \tDescription &#8211; Enter in a descriptive name of your choice for your mail account (e.g. Work Mail or Home Mail).<\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"> \tIncoming Mail Server &#8211; Enter in the secure server name:&nbsp;<strong>secure.emailsrvr.com<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"> \tUser Name &#8211; Enter in your entire email address (e.g., myname@mydomain.com).<\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"> \tPassword &#8211; Enter in the password associated with this account.<\/p>\n<p> \t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-687\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gotowebsmith.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/SettingUpEmailMacMail2.png\" width=\"575\" height=\"435\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gotowebsmith.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/SettingUpEmailMacMail2.png 575w, https:\/\/gotowebsmith.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/SettingUpEmailMacMail2-529x400.png 529w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 575px) 100vw, 575px\" \/><\/p>\n<p> \t4. Click the <strong>Continue<\/strong> button and&nbsp;Mac Mail will now attempt to detect the incoming server settings. If the <strong>Incoming Mail Security<\/strong> window appears, do the following and click <strong>Continue.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"> \tCheck the <strong>Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)<\/strong> box.<\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"> \tIn the <strong>Authentication<\/strong> drop-down menu, select <strong>Password<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p> \t5. Enter the following information:<\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"> \tDescription &#8211; Enter in a descriptive name of your choice for your mail account (e.g. Work Mail or Home Mail)<\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"> \tOutgoing Mail Server &#8211; Enter the secure server name:&nbsp;<strong>secure.emailsrvr.com<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"> \tCheck the <strong>Use only this server<\/strong> box and also check the <strong>Use Authentication<\/strong> box.<\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"> \tUser Name &#8211; Enter in your entire email address (e.g. myname@mydomain.com)<\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"> \tPassword &#8211; Enter in the password for your email account.<\/p>\n<p> \t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-688\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/gotowebsmith.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/SettingUpEmailMacMail5.png\" width=\"574\" height=\"412\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gotowebsmith.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/SettingUpEmailMacMail5.png 574w, https:\/\/gotowebsmith.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/SettingUpEmailMacMail5-557x400.png 557w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 574px) 100vw, 574px\" \/><\/p>\n<p> \t6. Click the <strong>Continue<\/strong> button and&nbsp;Mac Mail will now attempt to detect the outgoing server settings. If the <strong>Outgoing Mail Security<\/strong> window appears, do the following and you&#8217;re finished!<\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"> \tCheck the <strong>Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)<\/strong> box.<\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"> \tIn the <strong>Authentication<\/strong> drop-down menu, select <strong>Password<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"> \tClick the <strong>Continue<\/strong> button and then click the <strong>Create<\/strong> button.<br \/> \t&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3> \t&nbsp;<\/h3>\n<h3> \tUsing IMAP Folders:&nbsp;<\/h3>\n<p> \tTo simplify the organization of your messages, you can indicate which IMAP folders Mac Mail should use to store sent mail, drafts, spam, and trash.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p> \t1. Select <strong>Mail \/ Preferences<\/strong>,<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>click the <strong>Accounts <\/strong>button, located at the top of the window and click once on your <strong>IMAP<\/strong> account, as it appears in the <strong>Accounts<\/strong> list.<\/p>\n<p> \t2. Click the <strong>Mailbox Behaviors<\/strong> tab, clear all of the check boxes and close the <strong>Accounts<\/strong> window.<\/p>\n<p> \t3. When prompted to save your changes, click the <strong>Save<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n<p> \t4. In your <strong>IMAP<\/strong> folder, located in the <strong>Mailboxes<\/strong> pane (select <strong>View \/ Show Mailboxes<\/strong> to display the pane if it\u2019s not there), do the following:<\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"> \tClick once on the <strong>Sent<\/strong>, <strong>Drafts<\/strong>, <strong>Spam<\/strong>, or <strong>Trash<\/strong> folder.<\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"> \tSelect <strong>Mailbox \/ Use This Mailbox For<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"auto-style1\"> \tSelect <strong>Sent<\/strong>, <strong>Drafts<\/strong>, <strong>Junk<\/strong>, or <strong>Trash<\/strong> from the resulting list in the sub-menu.<\/p>\n<p> \t5. The selected folder will disappear from your IMAP list, and will now reappear as the corresponding Mac Mail folder.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pintip-jck\"> \t<strong>Note<\/strong>: <em>If you already have email on the server, your email will slowly begin to populate your inbox.
